We have all heard the famous story of the runaway prophet who disobeys God, gets swallowed by a “big fish”, somehow survives, then reluctantly obeys God...only to get angry with God in the end for being merciful.

Jonah's story can be difficult to believe. Did all of this really happen? Was Jonah a real person or a mythical character?

Whether we are skeptical of Jonah's story or remember loving it in Sunday School...Jonah’s instincts, worldview, and mercurial relationship with God have much to say to us... and it has much to say about the world we currently live in.
