Matthew 8:5-13

As we saw with the healing of leprosy, Jesus was not afraid to break laws and customs in order to help those in need of His healing touch.

This Sunday, Todd will look at how a massive outsider, a Roman centurion, amazed Jesus with his faith!

This centurion approached Jesus on behalf of one of his servants who was sick and in great pain. Not only does Jesus heal the servant, He does it by the power of His word and from a great distance.

Jesus then took the opportunity to remind all the religious people around Him that simply being an Israelite was no guarantee of being right with God or inheriting the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who surrender their lives to Jesus, receiving His free substitution for their sin will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

Going to church and knowing that Jesus is God's son is no guarantee that we are right with God and destined for Heaven. We must believe that "Jesus lived the life we couldn't live - a sinless, perfect life...and that... "He died the death we should have died" - when He  paid the price for our sin and brokenness with His life. If we believe that and follow Jesus' teaching and examply, we too will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
