The Trial – Jesus Before Pilot
Scripture: John 18:33-40
Devotional
Standing before Pilate, Jesus is questioned about His identity: “Are you the king of the Jews?” Yet Jesus makes it clear—His kingdom is not of this world. He speaks of truth, and that those who belong to the truth listen to His voice. Pilate responds with a haunting question: “What is truth?”
In this moment, truth is not an idea—it’s a person, standing right in front of him. And still, Pilate turns away. The crowd chooses Barabbas instead of Jesus. Good Friday confronts us with this same tension: will we recognize and receive the truth of who Jesus is, or will we look elsewhere?
Reflective Questions
- How do I respond when misunderstood or wrongly judged?
- What does courage look like in the face of injustice?
Prayer
Jesus, You stood in silence before accusation and spoke truth without fear.
You are the King whose kingdom is not of this world, and yet You came for me.
Forgive me for the times I turn away from Your truth or choose what is easier instead of what is right.
Open my ears to hear Your voice clearly.
Give me courage to follow You, even when it costs me something.
Help me to recognize You not just in words, but in the way I live.
Amen.
