Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11
Devotional
Jesus enters Jerusalem not on a warhorse, but on a humble donkey. The crowds shout “Hosanna!” and lay down cloaks and branches, expecting a king who will overthrow their enemies. Yet even in this moment of celebration, Jesus is moving steadily toward the cross. The same voices that praise Him will soon fall silent—or turn away.
This passage invites us to examine the kind of King we’re welcoming. Do we want a Savior who fits our expectations, or are we willing to follow the humble King who brings peace through sacrifice? On Good Friday, we see that Jesus didn’t come to meet our demands—He came to transform our hearts.
Reflective Questions
- Where might I be expecting Jesus to act according to my plans rather than trusting His way?
- What does it look like for me to truly welcome Jesus as King—not just in celebration, but in surrender?
Prayer
Jesus, humble King, You came not with power as the world understands it, but with gentleness, peace, and purpose.
Forgive me for the ways I try to shape You into who I want You to be.
Help me to receive You as You are—the Savior who leads through sacrifice.
As I walk toward the cross, give me a heart that follows You faithfully, not just in moments of praise,
but in moments of surrender. Hosanna—save me, Lord.
Amen.
